18 Flowering Plants with Stunning Black and White Blooms

black and white flower design

This unique old hybrid has dark foliage and flowers from May to June. If you are seeking black and white flowers, then you can end your search with ‘Snowstorm.’ This beautiful flower has pure white petals, which are heavily dotted with small black spots. Black and white illustration with leaves. We can thank South Africa for these cheerful, fragrant and drought-tolerant shrubs, which come in a variety of flavors and colors. This variety, Pelargonium citronella, has a citrus scent, but there are many others with aromas including chocolate and mint.

Tricks To Grow Biggest Spider Plants

Koray Karagözler’s unique and creative watercolor tattoos are beyond gorgeous. The German tattoo artist moved to Turkey where he continues to create nature-inspired work, that is both expressive and energetic. Ryan Norville started Oat Cinnamon Studio in 2018 after the pressures of working in web design for luxury beauty and fashion offices became overwhelming. “I never quite felt that I was meant to deal with the bureaucracy of intense corporate environments and how much it killed true creativity,” she says.

Add the deeply cut leaves of this bulbous perennial, and you will see why it forms natural bouquets with this amazing color combination. While it is not cold hardy, you can winterize the corms and have them in a temperate garden. But do remember to soak them for a few hours before planting them. The beautiful ring of pistils too is in the exact same tonality, and this gives you a bolder effect, against the snow colored broad petals of this semi double variety. It will blossom profusely from mid to late spring, attracting pollinators like butterflies and bees to your garden. Its small size makes it perfect for rock gardens as well, and it definitely suits a natural looking and informal style.

Orchid Phalaenopsis ‘White Purple Spot’

‘Nigra’ is the a hollyhock variety that competes for the podium of the darkest of all, together with ‘Blacknight’. However, I think it has an edge over her rival, because the “blackness” of its deep purple is more stable and more credible, with a deep violet undertone which lacks in her sister. Grow it as an accent shrub if you wish, or mix it in with other bushy plants in hedges, even in the dappled shade of trees and woodland gardens. It is suitable to most informal designs, including oriental ones. For example, a contender is ‘Pam’s Split’, but the dark blotches in the throat of the blossoms are a bit to big for a trompe l’oeil… You will definitely see that the “black” is dark purple. On the other hand, ‘Dalmatian White’ has small spots, and the overall effect is more convincing.

Unconventional Gardening Tricks to Become a Pro Gardener

She then found her passion for creating fine art, and has emerged as a distinguished tattoo artist who specializes in Oriental style. Check out these 13 Black women killing the floral game across the United States. Ideal for hanging baskets, ‘Supertunia Latte’ petunia is usually grown as an annual but it is a short lived perennial, not just in containers though… You can easily have it in flower beds and for edging as well. Anyway, both will give you the night and day contrast you are looking for in your garden. The leaves – well, you can hardly see them, but as you know, they are fuzzy, herbaceous and green. So, while the black is quite steady, the white isn’t.

Black Floral Designers You Need to Know

Dragon, tattoo artist at Bang Bang, specializes in illustrative color, realism, and fine line. Originally from Seoul, Korea, Dragon has been tattooing amazing work for a decade. Dragon says his favorite subject to tattoo is floral and small-scale realism. While Tea Leigh might rock an alchemical and witchy vibe, Leigh’s tattoos are delicate and bold, and completely hand-poked. The Brooklyn-based artist work between botanics and more metaphysical subjects, giving you the perfect poked nature-themed ink. Possibly the most “Insta-famous” botanical tattoo artist of all, “Rit Kit” is known for taking a plant, dipping it in her “special ink,” and pressing the plant onto the skin as her stencil.

Finally, it may happen that where the two colors meet, you will get a transition zone, where the actual purple that forms the base becomes evident, even with bright, mauve hues. Available in 35 species worldwide, you can find hybrid petunias in any color. Grow ‘Night Skies’ as the flower resembles the shade of the sky at night. Once the plants are mature, they will need little or no watering beyond winter rains. In fact, too much summer watering can kill many native plants, so expect to reduce their water usage down to a monthly drink if there’s no rain. Modern abstract flower seamless pattern. The plants grow in a spreading, mounding shape, filling in nicely around taller plants. Their little flowers are charming but their real power come from their fuzzy, jagged leaves, which release their delicious scent with just a casual touch. Many of these suggestions are California native plants that have adapted to the hot, dry summers and (once upon a time) wet winters of Southern California. South Korean tattoo artist Zihwa specializes in fine line black and gray tattoos. Zihwa, a.k.a. Ji Hae Park, arranges floral designs with subtle shading and intricate details. Ms. Barbara Johnson, you did a stunning job on the floral arrangements.

Nothing is more difficult than saying goodbye to a loved one, but the kindness, support and thoughtfulness shown during this difficult time blessed my soul. Dawn Floral started designing silk flowers in 2001 and moved into fresh flowers in 2004. “I have always been creative and artistic with my hands. I found flowers refreshing and therapeutic,” she recalls. “I noticed during the pandemic that a lot of people were buying flowers, and I’ve been thinking about this idea of how to merge mental wellness and self-care with florals. I’m a licensed psychotherapist, but I want to work from more of a mental wellness standpoint,” she says.

Here she and her husband of 36 years raised three kids and owned a successful landscaping company. Margie has a CSU Master Gardener certification. She specialized in garden design & installation, perennial gardens, turf grasses & weeds, flower containers, and the overall maintenance of allHOA, commercial and residential accounts. She and her husband now reside in Denver and are excited about the new experiences’ city life holds. And they sit on a lovely mound of deep green leaves with softly crenated edges. However, this leafy cushion is quite small compared to the size of the blossoms, which clearly take over in the overall effect.

In the fall those blooms become equally handsome rust-colored seed heads, continuing to provide food for birds and other animals. The shrubs can get large but it’s best to cut them low to the ground every year to refresh the plant so it grows and blooms again. It is also one of the hardiest varieties with black and white blooms.

The Ice House reopens in Pasadena with laughs, lofty goals and Lakers magic

For Margaret Cho, the club’s first big headliner to perform Thursday night, the details in a comedy club make the comic’s experience and the fan experience feel like they’re being taken seriously. The number of boats that tie up in the creek has diminished over the years, and the restaurants and bars that line the waterway make up what now is considered by many to be the culinary center of the fourth largest municipality in South Carolina. One of the eateries along the banks of the iconic waterway once served as the ice house for local shrimpers.

Working with Jacqueline Black and Michelle Porreca, Williams brought in a Chinoiserie wall covering to give the space a garden-like atmosphere. The designers worked with a color palette of Dunn-Edwards paints, and several chose to highlight the brand’s 2024 Color of the Year, a steely blue called Skipping Stones. Nods to Pasadena’s famous peacocks can be found throughout the designs, and many creators fearlessly brought in statement floors, enveloped their spaces with jewel tones, and added texture to ceilings.

Finally, burnt out on sports and other ventures before the pandemic, Buss decided to revive the comedy club dream, buying the Ice House in 2019 from longtime owner Bob Fisher, who was retiring. The club sat in limbo until recently — during which time Buss' mother, JoAnn Mueller, also passed away, before the club reopened. But over the last several months, the club has finally finished its long-awaited reshaping and is ready to turn the lights back on. Mentor Ave., hasn't changed, but walking through its new glass doors is like entering a place that’s transformed from a dusty piece of coal into a frosty diamond. As an original draft pick for the Sparks when the team started in 1997, Toler was the first player to score a basket in WNBA history.

We hope to make it a fun day that people of all ages can come and enjoy, raise some money for the local community’s needs and show the pride we have in being part of Mount Pleasant,” she added. Almost everything at Red’s is prepared in-house, from the hand-battered fried shrimp – the restaurant’s No. 1 seller – to the variety of soups and dips and pork butts smoked to perfection by Red’s Ice House pitmaster. Diners also have the opportunity to try what Dianne refers to as “limited time offers,” items added to the menu just to see if customers take to them. Located on historic Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, Red’s is the perfect spot for taking in Lowcountry wildlife and scenic Charleston sunsets. Voted the top bar in South Carolina and a top 50 bar in America by the members of BuzzFeed and Foursquare, Red’s has attracted a loyal following of patrons who enjoy lunch, dinner or late night munchies, liquid refreshments and some musical entertainment. Cozy Stylish Chic Creative Director Jeanne K. Chung and designers Angela Lee and Caroline Meloche brightened the dark wood-paneled library to create a space where residents can unplug. “Our two main goals were to create a space that was comfortable and a little bit updated while also retaining that history and not touching or harming all the really cool features that were innate to the room and came with the house,” Meloche says. Wallpaper was added to the ceiling and the backs of the bookcases, and heavy wood blinds were replaced with soft draperies and Roman shades to make the space feel lighter.

The landmark mansion was built in 1902 by architect Joseph J. Blick for Gertrude Potter Daniels, who paid $15,000 for the shingle-style home. In 1905, Susanna Bransford Emery-Holmes—known as the Silver Queen thanks to the source of her late husband’s fortune—purchased the home and soon made it her own. In 1922, she spent $37,000 to have the Postle Company of Los Angeles, who also built the Pasadena Playhouse, remodel it into an English Tudor Revival–style mansion, giving it the regal exterior that remains today. As the Pasadena Showcase House of Design enters its 59th year, it’s returning to a familiar setting. The Potter Daniels Manor, the English Tudor Revival–style residence that hosted the 1975 and 1996 showcase houses, has been reimagined with 30 new interior and exterior spaces for the 2024 edition, which is now open until May 19. Sitting in his designated booth at the back of the Legendary Room, Buss says he can’t wait to enjoy a show with the spirit of his favorite comedy fan right beside him.

About Shem Creek

A brick-walled patio became a party-ready outdoor kitchen and dining area thanks to Douglas R. Sanicola of Outdoor Elegance. Sanicola and Monique Wood installed Caesarstone countertops fabricated by Carlito’s Way Stone to create a functional space for outdoor entertaining. “I thought, if somebody’s taking care of the baby, they have a space where they can come and feel like it’s a retreat,” Sabatella says. The designer outfitted a door handcrafted in India with a vintage mirror to create a one of a kind headboard and bathed the space in deep emerald green. The glamorous touches continue in the ensuite bath, where Sabatella added a custom mirror-tiled tub that plays off the vintage French tile floor. “But I don't know anything about a club, I’ve never managed a club,” she told Buss over the phone when he first offered her the job.

The event draws more than 25,000 guests each year and offers several dining spaces, including Roe Japanese Fusion, the Tudor Rose Bistro, and Wattle & Daub Tavern. The Shops at the Showcase offer an array of merchants, from handmade jewelry to artisanal chocolates, and are also home to the Shops’s Wine & Cheese Bar. Though Buss and Toler believe that the entertainment business is all about the fans, it’s also the club’s duty to take care of the comics. Sparks in 2006 — a team he'd helped build into a winning franchise in the WNBA — Jerry's health had already started declining. Red’s Ice House, established in 2003, was purchased a year later by Dianne and Cecil Crowley. It has survived and thrived for nearly two decades, mainly because it is much more than just a place to consume a seafood platter or a burger and wash it down with a cold beer.

Designers Frank Slesinski and Serena Brosio collaborated on the charming living room in the Gatehouse. “One of the main things we did was add a window seat, which looks like it should always have been here,” Slesinski says. “Our whole goal with this space was basically to turn the lights on in the room, bring in the garden that’s outside, and kind of have an experience of a breath of fresh air,” Brosio says. Throughout the brick building in downtown Pasadena, vintage and modern flourishes demand attention like stylistic punchlines. The glowing stalactite chandeliers, electric neon art of cacti, waves and sun punctuate the walls of the California Room, the venue’s second stage. Guests pass through the red-brick walls of the revamped bar and patio area into the revived main room.

Norwegian Epic cabins and suites

norwegian cruise line epic rooms

See our 360-degree photos of the large balcony cabins on the Epic. Because of the ship layout and strange angles of the exterior, you will end up (usually) with a balcony that may be 50% larger but not as enjoyable. For one, you end up looking into the neighbor’s balcony/cabin when stepping out to the railing. So the reality is there is no benefit to the larger balcony staterooms on the Epic. Cruising with the whole family is a memorable experience for everyone onboard Epic! Each cruise onboard this epic cruise ship is designed so each member of your family, from great grandpa all the way down to the littlest member is happy the whole time!

Understanding the Six Types of Norwegian Epic Balcony Staterooms

Check out all of their itineraries on our site and then call us to discuss the best vacation option for you with our expert cruise consultants. Diverse cultures, outstanding historical attractions, and intriguing peoples are a few of the features of a cruise to Europe. Sometimes, the solo traveler meetups happen in the Studio Lounge, whereas other times they happen around the ship. Keep an eye on the Freestyle Daily schedule for the exact times and locations.

Where are the designated smoking areas on the Norwegian Epic?

You can ask your travel agent for size as to stateroom and balcony once you choose your stateroom category. As with a visit to any city, Epic's passengers need to plan ahead to make the most of their time onboard. Dinners and shows should be booked ahead of sailing or you may find yourself on the outside looking in. Lines are common, and much of the onboard experience, particularly dining, costs extra. Suite passengers have additional benefits, including enhanced toiletries, a bathrobe and slippers, Champagne on arrival and priority embarkation and disembarkation.

Most people who I know that have booked in the Haven suites tell me that they’d probably not pay full price for the experience but rather bid for an upgrade when possible. At 322 square feet, The Haven spa suites are the largest spa cabins and accommodate two passengers. They feature a queen-sized circular bed, an ensuite hot tub, butler and concierge service and access to The Haven's private pool, lounge, restaurant and bar. These Family Mini-Suites with a Balcony are perfect if you want to bring the kids. With room for up to four they feature two lower beds that convert into a queen-size bed, an upper bed and a sofa bed. In addition to the sitting area, luxury bath with shower or tub and your own private balcony, where the whole family can hang out and enjoy the view.

Whether you are looking to have a relaxing trip enjoying the spa or want to spend time with your family, there is a balcony stateroom to suits your needs. With so much going on, Norwegian Epic is a cruise ship with broad appeal. The ship was one of the first at sea to be referred to as Las Vegas-esque and it's no wonder.

If you happen not to find what you’re looking for, you can even post a question of your own. When you want some "me" time, look no further than Mandara Spa®.

Are there USB ports in staterooms? Where are they located?

With all the excitement that surrounded the 2014 launch of the Norwegian Getaway and the 2013 sister ship Norwegian Breakaway, it’s easy to forget the 2010 Norwegian Epic. A prototype for the Breakaway and Getaway, the Epic is larger and carries more guests than the other two ships. Studio passengers enjoy exclusive access to the Studio Lounge (indoor relaxation and dining venue). In 2020, NCL recategorized fleetwide the Mini-Suite cabin category, renaming it to "Club Balcony Suite" and adding free perks. The change didn't affect the staterooms' deck locations or cabin numbers.

There is also a tiny circular shelf inside the shower for guests to place their personal toiletries. Let’s take an in-depth look into what the Studio Staterooms are like onboard Norwegian Epic and everything that's included in the price. When it comes to the entertainment on Norwegian Epic, get ready to experience a show that explodes with jaw-dropping choreography, heart-pounding music and breath-taking moves. Watch the sizzle and passion of ballroom dancing unfold with Ballroom Blitz. Or let loose at Howl at the Moon, the World's Greatest Rock N' Roll Dueling Piano Bar.

With two lower beds that convert into a queen-size bed, these Mid-Ship Inside Staterooms can accommodate up to two guests. They also feature a separate bathroom with shower and access to some really great amenities. And because they are mid-ship staterooms, you'll have easy access to everything on board. NCl Epic's Studios are designed for single passengers and are available for booking as single occupancy cruise cabins.

The clever design of the cabin means that even though it is small, there’s plenty of floor space and storage space. I was cruising with my brother and I didn’t mind the unique bathroom design at all. There are a few areas of the ship where service could improve and is inconsistent with what you’d expect with NCL. Mainly this was found among some of the bartenders throughout the ship who looked like they were just overworked and tired. The current pricing to use the Mandara Thermal Suite is about $300 for a week (On a 9-day transatlantic crossing, it was $319 including all fees).

Modern, spacious suites perfect for the two of you or the whole family. First-class amenities include large balconies, butlers and more. Explore the history of the Mediterranean, relax on the waters of the Transatlantic, or feel the balmy breezes of the Caribbean.. Whatever you choose to do, Norwegian Epic is sure to dazzle. Awarded Best Cruise Ship Entertainment by Frommer’s, Norwegian Epic keeps the bar high with Burn the Floor. Not only is Norwegian Epic offering world-class performers but a new wave of accommodations as well - from Studios, designed and priced for the solo traveler, to privacy in The Haven.

One of my favorite spaces on the Epic is the Mandara Spa and Thermal Suite. While it’s no longer the biggest or the most fabulous, it’s still an incredible retreat. Modeled after traditional Turkish Baths, it features hot tubs and a relatively large therapy pool with various jets for aqua therapy. The Thermal Suites also feature everything you’d expect to see in a high-end spa including a steam room, sauna, heated chaise loungers, and rain showers.

Each Studio Stateroom has two hand towels, three makeup or face towels, and two large body towels. Of course, if you would like more you only need to ask your cabin steward. If these towels are hung up, they are not replaced and can be reused. If, however, guests place these towels on the floor, then the stateroom attendants will replace them. The bathroom area is comprised of a small sink and mirror with several storage selves and cupboards, as well as a pull-out trash can.

“Burn The Floor” show is also offered on the NCL newest ships Breakaway and Getaway. It is a ballroom dancing type of theatrical entertainment, with 14 professional dancers and 2 singers performing together with a live band. Follows the list of deckplan changes after ship's drydock 2015 refurbishment (September 27 to October 17) done at Damen Shipyard Brest (France).

I cruised in the Norwegian Epic in an inside cabin and had family members staying in a balcony cabin. As for privacy, if you are sitting on the section of the balcony that is covered (which is closest to the balcony door), it is total privacy. You can do whatever you want there and no one will see you unless you are docked and someone is standing dockside. That section of the balcony is the same size as any standard balcony on the ship (as these cabins have a double sized balcony). Move closer to the rail to the section of the balcony that is uncovered, and then you don't have the privacy but you have the open sky above and can even get a tan if you want. I guess it depends on what you want with regards to balcony size/space, however after a quick look its looks like the cabin are mostly "family" cabins.

How the Titanic Compares to Modern Cruise Ships

comparison of titanic to modern cruise ships

On a contemporary ship, a suite costs about $25,000 for a 7-night itinerary, which is a significant discount. The most famous passenger ship of all time is a title that still belongs to the Titanic, more than a century after its maiden voyage in 1912. Unfortunately, it’s because the sinking of the Titanic is still one of the worst maritime disasters in history, immortalized forever in museums, books, film and pop culture. The Royal Promenade is actually the first of the neighborhoods that passengers will encounter upon boarding an Oasis-class ship.

Dining options

At today’s costs, the Titanic cost approximately $400 million to build. Meanwhile, Symphony of the Seas cost Royal Caribbean a whopping $1.35 billion. Find out the details on Titanic vs. modern cruise ship, we compare the differences with today's modern cruise ships including Symphony of the Seas. The cruise ship that is about five times bigger than the Titanic is the Icon of the Seas. With a gross tonnage (GRT) of approximately 248,663, the Icon of the Seas far surpasses the Titanic’s GRT of 46,329. This makes the Icon of the Seas around 5.3 times larger than the Titanic.

Technological advancements improving emergency communication

This awareness has driven significant changes in ship design, fuel use, and waste management practices. Where the Titanic was a symbol of luxury and technological might of its era, modern cruise ships represent a holistic approach to maritime travel, balancing luxury, safety, and sustainability. Let's now compare the Titanic vs modern cruise ships on each major metric. For more context, we also measure her against the Symphony of the Seas. We want to compare the largest passenger liner of its time, the Titanic, vs modern cruise ships. This question doesn’t really need to be asked, but for comparison’s sake, let’s look at how the Titanic stacks up against modern cruise ships in terms of safety features.

Comprehensive fire safety protocols on modern cruises

The Verandah Cafe and the Cafe Parisian were located near the promenade and offered a more intimate and casual dining experience. Thanks to its massive size, Icon of the Seas can hold three times as many people as the Titanic. A previous shipping line, White Star operated multiple passenger ships, but today is known best for its losses.

For example, modern cruise ships have advanced navigation systems that use satellite technology to provide real-time information about the ship’s location and weather conditions. From housekeeping to dining to onboard entertainment, modern cruise ships offer a wide range of amenities and services designed to enhance the passenger experience. Many cruise lines also offer loyalty programs and other perks to reward repeat passengers and encourage customer loyalty.

Third Class Cabins

However, operational speed is often lower to optimize fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. Modern cruise ships are not only larger and safer but also more inclusive and environmentally conscious, reflecting the dynamic changes in technology, society, and travel preferences. The graph below shows the length of Titanic in comparison to the Royal Caribbean fleet. It’s interesting to note that although lengths of cruise ships have increased on average cruise ships aren’t much longer than Titanic was. SOLAS is a set of international safety regulations established in response to the Titanic catastrophe to ensure maritime safety. These regulations encompass not only lifeboats but also emergency procedures, safety features, and robust design requirements.

Design and Construction

For instance, many cabins now come with balconies, allowing passengers to enjoy breathtaking views of the sea from the privacy of their own rooms. When comparing deck space and public areas available on modern cruise ships versus those on board the Titanic, it becomes apparent how much things have changed over time. Today’s cruise ships model their cabins after upscale hotels, like the Titanic. Fortunately for today’s cruise ship passengers, every stateroom has a full bathroom, air-conditioning, TVs, and many even private balconies.

How many lifeboats are there on the largest cruise ships compared to Titanic?

If you take the average cruise ship today, including all the small ships that often have fewer than 100 passengers, then the average is almost identical – around 2,450 guests and 750 crew. As I’ve covered, a lot of modern cruise ships aren’t built to be the biggest but instead target a particular market. And sometimes, they’re built to certain dimensions to be able to sail to a specific destination. The average of modern cruise ships is definitely weighted lower by these speciality exploration and luxury ships, but remember that there are many ships that are longer than the Titanic was too. This comparative analysis underscores the profound transformations in cruise ship design, safety, and passenger experience over the past century.

Titanic vs Modern Cruise Ships: Size & Other Differences

Get ready to set sail on a journey through time as we compare the legendary Titanic with the extravagant world of modern cruises. It’s a clash of eras, where opulence meets innovation and luxury collides with convenience. Many first-class travelers shared communal bathrooms despite their luxurious accommodations. In addition, freshwater was in short supply on board the ship, so passengers of all classes took seawater baths.

Passengers can enjoy a wide variety of activities ranging from Broadway-style shows to water parks and rock climbing walls. Similarly, culinary offerings have expanded to include multiple specialty restaurants, celebrity chef partnerships, and a wide range of international cuisine options. Gone are the days when swimming was only possible during warm weather conditions on a cruise ship. Thanks to innovative designs, some modern cruise ship pools are equipped with retractable roofs or glass enclosures that allow for year-round swimming regardless of the weather outside. Whether it’s pouring rain or chilly winds are blowing, you can still enjoy a leisurely swim in comfort and style while admiring breathtaking ocean views.

It was delivered in January 2022 and is the fifth vessel in the Oasis class of cruise ships. Most have speeds above 20 knots (23 mph), with some reaching upwards of 30 knots (34.5 mph). Besides increased engine power, modern cruise ships also benefit from improvements in hull design which allow them to reduce drag through the water and thus increase their cruising speed. What are the differences between the two in terms of size, cost, and luxury? From the size of the vessels to their shared capability for luxurious amenities, there are plenty of points of comparison between these two types of ships. While the Titanic was impressive for its time, it measured only 882 feet long and 92 feet wide.

The vibrant nightlife onboard is further enhanced by onboard casinos, nightclubs, and bars that cater to those seeking excitement after sunset. She is unquestionably smaller when compared to contemporary cruise ships. However, it wasn’t any smaller than what you might have anticipated given the time frame.

The Oasis-class ships we have reviewed are big enough to contain the Titanic itself. Despite this, because of Titanic’s place in history, it will always remain as the largest ship ever built, at least in our collective memory, but not in actual fact. The Youth Zone is the section of the ship where child passengers can hang out. This section covers more than 28,000 square feet, divided into two areas designated for particular age groups. This area replicates the look and feel of a city park with more than 12,000 actual trees and plants. It also has four restaurants, two bars, and three retail shops, including an art gallery and a portrait studio.

The Titanic could accommodate up to 2,435 passengers and a crew of about 900, totaling around 3,335 people. The ship’s accommodations were divided into three classes, reflecting the social stratifications of the time. Each class had its own dining and social areas, with the first-class passengers enjoying the most luxurious settings. Additionally, the aesthetic and functional aspects of cruise ships have evolved. They feature expansive atriums, multiple dining venues, entertainment complexes, and a variety of onboard activities, offering a comprehensive vacation experience. The Titanic was built in one piece by riveting large plates together whereas modern cruise ships are built in smaller sections, then loaded into place using large cranes.

Modern cruise ships average 13 passenger decks and the Symphony of the Seas has a total of 16 decks for guests. That’s because modern ships still need to be able to dock in older ports that don’t receive frequent upgrades and expansions. The process of docking and maneuvering cruise ships means that although they can easily increase their height and width, they are limited in how long they can be built. The current, largest, in-service cruise ship is Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas.

Drink Packages Sodas, Beers, Spirits and More

promo code carnival cruise

Don’t expect to enjoy special coffees or “virgin” versions of alcoholic drinks. If it’s not soda or juice, then it’s likely not included. Carnival allows each cruiser to bring 12 cans or cartons of nonalcoholic soda, sparkling water, juice, or energy drinks onboard at the start of the cruise. Depending on your Diet Coke habit and the length of your cruise, this allotment might be enough to keep you from spending money on soft drinks onboard. In other words, you'll save money if you and the other adults in your cabin plan to drink your fair share of alcoholic beverages every day.

Norwegian Cruise Line Explains After Switching Port

They’re valid up to 91 days prior to cruises of six days or longer, or up to 76 days before shorter cruises. The key is finding great deals, not spending cash when you could get something for free, and taking advantage of any free perk you can get. If you want to know how to find discounts on your next Carnival cruise, or even how to spend less on alcohol onboard, read our best Carnival cruise tips to saving money. There's another way to think about the value of the Cheers package. Some people are looking for the unquantifiable peace of mind that comes with not worrying about drink costs adding up at every turn.

lessons learned after trying Carnival for the first time

Take a cab or walk to a nearby beach for an affordable day of sun, sand, and surf. Look for beachside bars and restaurants that might offer a cheap package rate on sun lounger access and drinks. Even if you're a caffeine fiend who drinks coffee and soda all day, it's hard to recoup the costs of the Carnival Cheers package on nonalcoholic beverages alone. Drinks must be ordered one at a time (whether alcoholic or not), with a wait time of five minutes between drink orders.

CardMatch

I tried to add a $4 bowl of clam chowder and the tip shot up to over $8. I wanted to buy more and tip more in the same transaction. Also be aware the sushi and seafood shack both charge a mandatory tip. Said $15 credit for seafood shack but only could buy 1 thing. Think of it as paying your way into certain VIFP Club Diamond- and Platinum-level benefits that would otherwise typically take at least 10 sailings with Carnival to earn. Yes, and even though it is primarily a video-based service, you can use it on all Internet Plans including Social.

New law forces Carnival Cruise Line to change advertised price for cruises

It’s virtually impossible to survive one day without any wi-fi and it has become part of life for billions around the world. If you’re going on a cruise for the first time one of the first things you might be worried about is no wi-fi. Only one person in the room needs to purchase Faster to the Fun for all of the guests sharing the cabin to receive the benefits. You cannot purchase the package for one member of your party and have them order sodas for everyone. This is a difficult one as it really depends on how robust your connection needs to be for your work.

There's free coffee in self-serve machines on Lido, and if you bring your own covered mug from home, you can easily transport it anywhere on the ship. You may be extremely lucky and find photo specials once you board your Carnival cruise, but the safest bet if you want to save is to book your package pre-cruise. If you are on a longer cruise and will drink more than that, you'll save by ordering a Bottomless Bubbles soda package. Before you book your Carnival cruise, it's worth comparing prices with third-party companies such as Viator. If you are lucky, the category you chose will sell out and you will be upgraded -- say from a guarantee interior to an ocean view category cabin. If you're not lucky, you could end up in an interior in a less desirable area of the ship.

Request Carnival gift cards as presents.

Many people forget about what their mobile devices can do. Many devices have the option to share its wi-fi connection with other nearby devices. This means the device acts as a hotspot and can be useful for sharing one connection. As well, if you like to drink Coca-Cola products, then you can bring them on the ship with you. This price does not include the automatic 18% gratuity added to the package. Therefore, the actual price is $8.20 per day for those under 18 and $11.21 for those 18 years and older.

Can you Use iPhone MESSAGES FREE without PAYING FOR Carnival Wi-Fi?

You will have to pay for gas, parking, and possibly a hotel stay, but these costs can still be less than airfare – especially for families or larger travel groups. Look for “stay, park, and cruise” deals from hotels that will bundle one night in a hotel with transportation to the port and parking for the length of your cruise. If you see an eligible lower fare advertised by Carnival, you can submit a claim and have your cruise re-priced or get the difference in onboard credit. However, be aware that any changes to the sailing will incur a $50 fee, and cancellations will be refunded in future cruise credits not cash. If you've decided the Carnival Cheers package isn't worth the cost, you might still want some tips on scoring free or cheaper drinks during your cruise.

Avoid inflated onboard drink prices by bringing your own drinks onboard. If you want to spend less, make it a priority to take advantage of the included offerings, rather than handing over your Sail & Sign card and racking up that onboard bill. The best way to save money on a Carnival cruise is to have someone else help you pay for it. Carnival issues gift cards, which you can request from family and friends for holiday or birthday presents. You can also bring up to a 12-pack of nonalcoholic beverages in 12-ounce cans or cartons.

Carnival sets these rules to prevent you from ordering drinks for cruisers who haven't purchased a drink package. So what happens when you want to order a round of drinks for friends? The first drink will count toward your Cheers package limit, and the rest will be charged to your account. First, let's clarify which beverages are already included in your standard Carnival cruise fare. Loyalty programs are a great way to get freebies on cruise ships. Before your first cruise with Carnival, you can join the Very Important Fun Person (VIFP) Club.

All you need to know is their full name and the month of their cruise. Typically speeds can vary anywhere from 20mbps on older ships to 50mbps on newer ships. However with the addition of Starlink, you’ll most likely be achieving speeds of 20-40mbps. On my last cruise, the onboard Internet had been upgraded to Starlink. For the first time ever on a cruise, I stopped complaining about how poor the Internet download speed was.

While researching this article, I found out that the Carnival Cruise wifi package is a hot topic with lots of questions. Most of these are on cost and what you can and cannot do, depending on the plan you have purchased. I called and carnival stated that they’ve slowed down with the promo codes.

Carnival also offers a 15% discount for pre-purchasing Wi-Fi, making that a definite deal if you plan to be online during your cruise. Carnival cruise deals are easy to find and generally straightforward, but you do need to know when to look and how to compare them to make sure you are actually getting a deal. All cruise lines have ways of making you think you're getting the best cruise deal all the time.

It doesn't include other nonalcoholic beverages, such as bottled water and specialty coffee; drinks ordered through room service and the minibar also are not included. Beyond the BYO options, thirsty cruisers can take advantage of drink packages, including the Bottomless Bubbles soda package and Cheers! Drinks package (covering alcohol, soda, energy drinks, coffee and tea, bottled water, and other soft drinks priced at $20 or less).

Rogue Wave Strikes Cruise Ship, Killing One and Injuring 4 Others The New York Times

cruise ship wave

No serious injuries were reported among the 266 passengers and 131 crew members, according to HX. A possible rogue wave sent headlines around the world last week after it broke windows on a cruise ship off the coast of Argentina, killing a woman and injuring four others. A storm off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina, battered a Carnival cruise ship for hours late Friday night before it docked, leaving passengers terrified.

A woman who was struck by a falling tree on Thursday in the eastern Dutch town of Wilp later died of her injuries, her employer said. On Thursday, high winds also grounded flights in parts of the U.K., suspended train services and stopped Scottish ferries. Ian Roberts, another passenger, wrote on Facebook about the unexpected change in holiday plans. Matthew Branham and his fiancée, Madison Davis, were lying by a Carnival Sunshine pool on Friday aboard a cruise returning to Charleston, S.C., from the Bahamas when an announcement came over the loudspeaker. The captain was expecting rougher weather that evening, but there was nothing to worry about.

News

Throughout the storm, Branham wondered why there weren’t more announcements from Carnival staff. Besides the warning of rougher seas earlier Friday and one Saturday morning after they’d weathered the storm, Branham said they weren’t given any official updates on their situation. The ship was in the North Sea at the time, in an area hit by a storm late Thursday with hurricane-force gusts forecast to continue Friday, the Danish Meteorological Institute said according to Reuters. The Viking Polaris was launched this year and was designed for travel to remote destinations such as the Antarctic Peninsula. The ship is 665 feet long and can carry 378 passengers and 256 crew members. Rogue waves are unpredictable, typically twice the size of surrounding waves and often come from a different direction than the surrounding wind and waves, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The ship’s medical staff did help a “small number” of guests and crew members who needed minor assistance following the storm. Despite the significant damage and a delay in schedule, Carnival Sunshine embarked on its next five-day Bahama sailing on Saturday. “We have 19 small ships and riverboats sailing across the country in 2024, plus more boats and new itineraries coming in late 2024 and 2025,” said Alexa Paolella, manager of public relations for ACL.

Sailing around the storm can take longer than the original route and disrupt the company’s cruise schedule, leading to delays or cancellations. The cruise line may have to reimburse passengers or provide them with future credits because of the inconvenience. In 2016, Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas returned to port after cruising into a “bomb cyclone,” which damaged the ship amid winds gusting to 100 mph. The ship sailed into the remnants of Hurricane Hermine seven months later, causing additional problems.

Instead, impacted passengers can ask Carnival for a refund or a credit for another cruise, although there’s no guarantee the cruise line will grant such requests. “Waves were hitting the boat so hard that it was like an earthquake experience, jarring you like a really rough roller coaster — even in the middle floor,” Branham said. It is the beginning of the Antarctic tourism season, which coincides with its summer, beginning in late October or early November and usually lasting until March. The cruise company canceled the Viking Polaris’s next scheduled trip, a 13-day cruise to the Antarctic Peninsula. A State Department official said that a U.S. citizen died and that the department was offering consular assistance to the person’s family.

The Trusdales were passengers on the Viking Polaris cruise ship last week. Passenger Bill Hassler, who told CNN he was “surprised I’m still alive” after enduring the storm, criticized the cruise line for allowing the ship to sail into such extreme weather. The National Hurricane Center warned on Friday that a non-tropical area of low pressure off Florida was set to move northward and inland over the Carolinas during the weekend. Forecasters said there would be gusty winds, dangerous surf and rip current conditions along parts of the southeastern coast of the United States through Sunday. The ship, en route from the Bahamas to Charleston, encountered the storm off the South Carolina coast.

Rogue, or extreme storm, waves are "greater than twice the size of surrounding waves" and are "very unpredictable," according to the National Ocean Service. A guest died following the incident, Viking said, though did not share further details on the cause of death. Some passengers complained to CNN and CBS News about a lack of communication from cruise staff as the ship was pitching about.

The Viking Polaris’ next departure, the Antarctic Explorer cruise scheduled for Dec. 5-17, was canceled due to the incident. The company said that falling trees damaged overhead electric wires or blocked tracks largely in northern Germany, but also in the central state of Hesse.

Tom Trusdale said he saw two passengers tossed into the air from what seemed to be an apparent explosion. The Viking Polaris ship's next departure for the Antarctic, scheduled for Dec. 5, has been canceled "after careful consideration," the cruise line said. Californian Beverly Spiker told ABC News that a "huge smash" against the window of her and her husband's cabin caused her window frame to break. The passenger killed was a U.S. citizen, a State Department spokesperson confirmed to ABC News Friday.

"Our team are working to arrange onward travel back home for guests onboard," a spokesperson for the company said. "The condition of the ship remains stable and the crew are able to sail under their own power," a spokesperson for HX said. She tweeted again on Saturday afternoon, describing "14 hours of high winds, rain and massive waves."

The nation's water and infrastructure authority said that was also a first. Such freak accidents may seem rare, but hundreds have occurred without warning around the world — on cruise ships, cargo vessels, oil platforms and beaches. Several passengers, including Brenda Goodwin Sherbert, posted on social media about broken glass on the ship.

The first and most famous measurement was of the Draupner wave, a 25.6-meter monster recorded in the North Sea on January 1, 1995. “Avalon Waterways is enjoying record sales overall for 2024,” said Steve Born, chief marketing officer for the Globus family of brands, which includes Avalon. “Our record pace accelerated during this wave season, as more and more advisors look to Avalon as an alternative to more traditional luxury cruises."

En route back to Charleston Friday night into Saturday, the Carnival Sunshine navigated into a strong storm system that battered the southeast over the holiday weekend. Videos emerged on social media showing cabins and hallways flooding, shop floors littered with destroyed merchandise and leaking ceilings. Passenger Brad Morrell snapped a photo of an automated instrument map reporting a 69 knot, or 79 mph, wind. The ship, traveling under its own power, is currently sailing to Bremerhaven, Germany, for disembarkation, HX said in an updated statement Friday. Two civilian support vessels are aiding the ship in its journey to port, Danish rescue authorities said.

For the Cunard brand specifically, the line booked more guests during January than any equivalent period in the last decade, according to a brand spokesperson. In North America, Cunard has booked 28% more guests than any other equivalent period in a decade, and there was a 27% increase year-over-year with Queen Mary 2’s transatlantic crossings, Queen Anne U.K. Support vessels are working with the ship as it continues to head toward the port city in northern Germany, according to the company. Reuters reported earlier Friday, citing a Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Centre official, that another ship had assisted with a tow.
